Market Research
By taking a survey, our group could see the different opinions people had and what they thought about Yurei films. We included several questions considering the conventions of this sub-genre film we are going to be filming, and based by the answers majority of people agreed to, we would consider including this in our film to grab the attention of the audience.
Here is the survey we published on surverymonkey.

Survey Analysis
In the answers, you can see that mostly, females took part in answering the survey.
The majority of the people that answered my survey are aged between 16-20. This helps to see the target audience and what they like and dislike.
Most of the people that answered this question have watched this movie, but I should take into consideration that there is over a half that hasn't, but the majority surely is interested in these types of movies.
The results show that only several people actually look forward to see gore in movies, meanwhile others love to see either the thrill or suspense, therefore tells me that one of the main aspects i should consider is the thrill in the beginning of my film. No one thought that the beginning drag on which is good, as i think that when the introduction is quite long, it builds tension.
18 people would like to see a girl being a victim, yet 16 said that they would prefer seeing a girl as a protagonist. this shows that in our film we may make one girl a victim, another girl a protagonist, that tries to save her, yet the main protagonist may be considered being a boy, as 12 people preferred.
As you can see, the majority found a house scarier, which is interesting, as its an everyday thing you see; you live there, yet i understand, as its your own property and its big, therefore can seem very scary. On second place there is a phone. This corresponds to the vox pop we took, and the majority said that their phone would be the most scarier to them.
THIS MAKES ME CONSIDER THAT THE ACTION CAN BE HAPPENING IN THE HOUSE, YET THE COMMUNICATION DEVICE COULD BE A PHONE.
THIS MAKES ME CONSIDER THAT THE ACTION CAN BE HAPPENING IN THE HOUSE, YET THE COMMUNICATION DEVICE COULD BE A PHONE.
Are there any certain actors you would like to see?
40 people didn't have a particular actor or actress they would like to see in the movie, yet 30 of them would like to see these actors/actresses:
* David Arquette * heath ledger * zooey deschanel * Yvonne Strahovski * David Tennant x2 * Jamie Lee Curtis * Shannyn Sossamon * Emma Watson x2 * Brittany Snow * Charlese Theron * simon Pegg * Kristen Stewart * Ali Roth |
* Gemma Arterton * Johnny Depp x3 * brooklyn decker * Amber Heard * Xavier Samuel * Brad pit * Noel Fielding * morgan freeman * cameron diaz * Will Smith * Liam Neeson * Kayden Kross * Mila Kunis x2 |
We can see that the most occuring actors are david tennant and brad pitt and the actresses are mila Kunis and emma watson, therefore i would try to find the actors that would look similar to them.
The audience finds the slow building up in the beginning builds tension. This is good because i personally would want to build up to the moment rather than having a death right at the start.
There is a big difference in this results, majority thinking everyday locations being more effective. This is good, as places like the woods are too stereotypical places for "Horror" to happen, therefore, not only everyday places will build up tension but also it will be easier for us to film at a house than the woods for example, plus will be more realistic.
30 people prefered seeing a death 6 minutes or a bit more in the film, this gives me an idea that, as we are going to be filming a two minute introduction, we would not include a death, or maybe tell the audience that there is a death but not show it. A death occurring two minutes after the start would be too quick, therefore, we could build up the tension to an actual death where it would be shown further in the movie.
Evaluation
Firstly, the age category that will probably watch the final film are females between 16-20 years old. All have watched a yurei film and watch it usually for thrill or suspense, therefore in the opening sequence i will insure that the introduction doesn't bore the audience but keeps them in a thrill. Secondly, the audience would mostly like to see a girl victim, therefore in my film i included to girls, which one of them will be shown as a victim at the start of the movie. as said in the survey, the actresses the audience liked the most are Emma watson and mila cunis, therefore i would chose my two main characters which will be in my movie with the similar looks to them. Lastly, people answered that the most scariest device for them would be a room, but i decided to use social network facebook as there are millions of people using it and its an everyday device, so it would seem more scarier.
Vox Pop
Our group was also interested in doing a vox pop, a short film where you ask people on the street questions about the genre we are filming. It was interesting to gather information from the people and what they think. This is what we ended up with.
